What is a ‘Modern Data Platform’?

We refer to modern data platforms as the new age of cloud data warehouses. Rather than name specific vendors, the modern platforms should allow for the following practices:

  • Instead of loading a select amount of data to reduce storage costs, storage costs are so low that you can replicate all data from source systems. This is the first step to centralizing enterprise data.
  • Second, compute workloads can be isolated so that you can run data transformations in the database itself. In addition, it can handle live queries of hundreds or thousands of users which is common in operational use cases.
